Workplace Learning & Development

Workplace Learning & Development sessions are intended to support the goals of Affirmative Action as one of the positive steps to ensure equal employment opportunities of a protected class. The Affirmative Action Office’s (AAO) Diversity Education upholds Equal Employment Opportunity laws that were passed to correct a history of unfavorable treatment of U.S. minority group members and women in the workforce.

In addition, the Affirmative Action Office (AAO) upholds a fundamental principle of respect for the inherent dignity, worth, and human rights of all individuals. The AAO works toward upholding the rights of all sexual and gender diverse staff, faculty, and students within the University community and in the larger society. We collaborate with individuals and groups on campus who provide education around and support for people of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.

The AAO is currently in a period of transition and will be very limited in offering workplace learning and development sessions. Dr. Shakoor Ward, who has provided AAO’s professional development for the last three and a half years, has accepted a new role outside of Penn State University.

During this transition, we may be selective in providing sessions to requests that directly address Penn State policies (e.g., ADA, Religious Accommodations, Recruitment & Hiring, Title IX, etc.) until the Professional Development Coordinator position is filled.

Sincerely,

Penn State Affirmative Action Office
